    ABOUT KINO FLO

    It started with a light
    that didn’t exist yet.

    In 1987 a gaffer and a best boy needed a fixture small enough to hide in a bar set and cool enough to leave there. Nothing on the market did it, so they built one. Forty years of firsts followed.

    Forty years of firsts.

    The 4Bank made fluorescent usable on set. Diva-Lite put it in small studios everywhere. An Academy Award in 1995 recognised the color science underneath all of it, and True Match® has carried that accuracy forward ever since.
    Now four more lines join the range. LiteRibbon, LiteMat, LiteTile and Auroris add rig-anywhere flexibility to a catalogue already built on color accuracy — the same trusted light, with more ways to put it exactly where the shot needs it.

    COMPANY

    A LIGHT THAT DID NOT EXIST

    A gaffer and a best boy start Kino Flo after building a fixture for Barfly small enough to tuck into a bar location without cooking it. The 4Bank debuts alongside the high-frequency ballast that removes fluorescent flicker.

    1992

    COLOR SCIENCE

    TUBES THAT STAY COOL

    Fluorescent tubes that stay cool to the touch, built with phosphors that eliminate the magenta-green tint of off-the-shelf fluorescent light.

    1993

    FIXTURE LAUNCH

    MICRO-FLO

    One of the smallest portable soft lights, popular for tight, unconventional places. Jamie Lee Curtis tapes one to the side of her face to light Arnold Schwarzenegger.

    RECOGNITION

    AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT

    Recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for developing cool, tube-based arrays with color-correct tungsten and daylight balanced light — the color science every Kino Flo fixture since has been built on.

    FIXTURE LAUNCH

    DIVA-LITE

    Debuts and becomes one of the most widely used cool lighting fixtures in the world for small studio and location work.

    Introduced for large soft light coverage and easy rigging, quickly becoming a favourite of motion picture and TV visual effects designers.
